The Sight-Size Method en Plein AirCan I suggest reading it enlarged on screen as it prints out at half the size of the magazine and unless you have laser like eyes you'll have difficulty reading it!
The sight-size method is incredibly useful for landscape painting as it allows the artist to focus on colors, values, and edges; the shapes one paints seem to take care of themselves.
